FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions About Tenmar's Glass Railing Applications
What applications are glass railings suitable for?
Glass railings work for both residential and commercial projects. Common residential applications include deck railings, balcony railings, stair railings, and patio railings. Commercial applications include multi-family condos, townhouses, office buildings, and public spaces. Glass railings can be installed indoors or outdoors. They provide unobstructed views while meeting BC Building Code requirements.
Can glass railings be installed on curved or custom spaces?
Yes. Glass railings can be custom-fabricated for curved staircases, rounded balconies, and unique architectural designs. The glass panels are cut to precise measurements to fit your space. Installation timeline for custom applications is 6-8 weeks from measurement to completion. Both frameless and semi-frameless systems accommodate curved installations.
Are glass railings safe for homes with children and pets?
Glass railings meet all safety requirements under the BC Building Code. The glass is both tempered and laminated for strength and safety. If breakage occurs, the glass holds together rather than shattering. The systems use 12mm glass panels. Frameless systems have no horizontal bars that children could climb. The continuous glass surface provides a secure barrier.
What's the difference between frameless and semi-frameless railings for different applications?
Frameless railings use glass panels mounted directly to the deck or floor with no posts. This provides completely unobstructed views. Semi-frameless railings use aluminum posts spaced a maximum of 42 inches apart with glass panels between them. Frameless systems cost $300-$400 per linear foot. Semi-frameless systems cost $250-$350 per linear foot. Both options work for indoor and outdoor applications.
How are glass railings installed for different applications?
Installation begins with careful measurement of your space. For deck and balcony applications, mounting hardware is installed first. For stair railings, both base-mounted and side-mounted options are available. Outdoor applications may use base shoe, standoff, or spigot mounting systems. Indoor applications often use cleaner mounting solutions for aesthetic purposes. All installations include a final inspection to ensure code compliance and proper function.
